Notice the smile...

I don't know if I would have the same expression if I just had my face dragged through the dirt. I know I wouldn't. Kids. It's the start of "swing" season. My kids are acrobatic daredevils. I try not to watch. Their swings are right outside my quilting room- which is surrounded by windows. A constant, "Hey, Mom! Watch this!" Do I have to? Apparently it is important to them that I do. And make all the appropriately moaning and groaning sounds at their daring-do. Lots of the worried Mom routine- it wouldn't be as fun otherwise. I have to keep reminding myself that I used to like doing those kind of things, too. A lifetime ago.

In the sewing room, I've been making hundreds and hundreds of flying geese blocks. I started this project a long time ago and I have been chipping away at it a few at a time. Sarah, now you know why I haven't gotten your birthday blocks done, yet. I know it is just 16 more flying geese, but the very idea makes me nauseous. Did you have to choose that pattern? Sigh. I don't know why I picked out that particular quilt top to make when it required so many of them. A friend suggested that maybe it was like childbirth- you forget how painful it can be! Indeed. Not that they are difficult, but just oh so monotonous after the first 250. But maybe it will be worth it in the end. I am good and sick of it at this point. I can see me giving it away with little regret

OUCH!!! (for Abe)

& OUCH!!! (for the geese) They look so pretty when they're done, but even paper piecing them is excruciating in my book. I always knew you were brave!

What quilt are all these flying geese for? I am working on two secret projects which required 80 flying geese each - and by the end of the 160 I was sick and tired of them too!

I am just glad to hear you are back at your sewing machine!

Love you!

Little stinker! Sarah, that is. haha How could she choose for you to participate in an act such as making bajillions of flying geese blocks?!

And that brown-eyed Abe the Acrobat. Look at the mischief in those eyes! Love the muddied face. I would be wearing ear plugs and blinders if I were you, I just know it. Gotta love their sense of freedom and faith!

Love and hugs to you, my dear!

I would say that those kids have inherited a few 'Brady' genes. When I was young we were not allowed to have a swing in the yard tree...grass was too hard to grow and did not come back quickly when worn away by little feet. We had a swing, made of a chain that daddy had attached to a limb that must have been at least 30 or 40 feet off the ground. Now let me you could swing high in that swing....we used to try to swing high enough to touch the limbs of a tree on the other side of the basketball court. Seemed like a good idea at the time....mom would probably have have had heart failure if she had seen us. Someone stole the chain....probably saved our lives.

LOL - reminds me of the rope we had from the highest part in the barn - maybe 40-50 ft. high. If we really got good at it, when it swung, it would hit the header of the big barn door and then flip us outside and UP at an angle - intersting to see from the outside - hard to explain! We NEVER fell off, ever. The arc from one side of the barn, on the loft, to the outside, where it flipped it up was wider than the barn, probably > than 60feet! What a ride. Thanks for the memories and sounds of laughter. 8-)))
