As you can see...It is a very pretty quilt. Sarah's thought was that I could put feather wreaths in the plain blocks, but they seem to kinda... dangle out there... all alone... it's just sad. Any thoughts from the professionals? And it's gotta be simple 'cause this is me you're talking to, here. I tried a feather meander in the other blocks. Blech! That's what I spent all evening removing. The fabrics are plenty busy, but I don't know what could enhance it without distracting from the cool overall pattern that the log cabin blocks make, together. I could really use some input. Thanks!
OOhhh . a lovely quilt. I am just a handquilter so I can't give you advice about teh quilting part. But I definately love this quilt:c)
ReplyDeleteOh darn...and I was going to suggest a freehand, allover feather.... Hmmm...what about one of the fabrics? Is there an image that you can mimic in your quilting from one of the fabrics?

I like this quilt alot too! Have you thought about drawing your quilting pattern on a piece of tissue paper and laying it on the area to be quilted to audition it before you have to pick out all the stiches?
ReplyDeleteSorry to say that I don't have any suggestions either, other than the dark colors are calling out. Maybe something that would emphasize those instead of a "standalone" in the cooler colors?

ReplyDeleteNot sure if you can tell from these pix but I like to do freehand feathers going one direction for the light furrows and then going the opposite direction for the dark furrows. Maybe a large feather wreath in the center??

Well, for me it would definately be a two thread quilt. I'm not crazy about dark thread in light areas or light thread in dark areas....so that would be where I would start! Could you do swirls and whirlpools or something in the lights? And something else in the darks of a totally different texture, like leaves and foilage? Something easy to free hand in both areas, but I would use light thread in the lights, and dark in the darks...
