My New Years Project...

Sandy always starts a new project at the end of the year and she said I needed to do that, too.  So here ya go.  I found it in an Australian Quilter magazine.  I think they have pretty applique.  You'll notice the pieced background... things are pretty bad when you don't have 4 blocks 17" of neutral.  And I call myself a quilter.  Need to do something about that.  I clawed through my neutral bin and couldn't find any pieces big enough so the scrap bin came to the rescue.  I can just say I planned it that way.  So I'm appliqueing for awhile.

It's beautiful! And I love the background, pieced backgrounds just give quilts so much personality!

I've always been partial to pieced backgrounds. You're off to a good start to making a lovely block. Happy New Year to you!!!

Better you than me, girlfriend! I started a new quilt this week too. It is a monkey wrench pattern using the Denyse Schmidt fabrics from Joann's. I am loving it so far!

Wish we could have a sewing day together!

Love you!

I prefer the pieced background, adds so much more interest. The flower design is really pretty. I just got a new quilting book, Double Take, from That Patchwork Place. I love it. It is written by a mother-daughter team. They start with the same block, but create entirely different designs. They ask, "How can two people with similar genetics see things so different?" All of us have probably asked that same question in other aspects of life, as well (e.g.,fashion, home decor, etc.) ;)
