Art and my interpretation...
Art is like a foreign language to me, I enjoy the way it sounds and I can occasionally understand it! Evabeth drew this picture for her Daddy on Father's Day. I just loved it and its been hanging on the wall for a couple weeks... got me to thinkin'.... yep, dangerous.
So Kelli and I headed out to the quilting room this morning before she had to catch her plane and I started pulling colors. The blue and several of the circles are my own hand dyed fabrics and the rest is batik. Then I started slicing and dicing and I got Kelli to man the iron as I sewed- how fun is that? and in about an hour we had our foundation. I finished up the applique while watching a movie, this evening. ("The Bonneville" was a good one.) I still need to quilt it, but you can see how it's gonna be. I didn't make it too exact- we'll say it was "open to interpretation." The "translation" of this little piece was a blast and it was time spent with a friend. She boosted my ego by ohhing and ahhing over each step- what a friend! It was just a great time!

what a deal-- a friend who'll man the iron while you sew!

Love how the little piece turned out -- the "brokenness" of some of the blue rays really adds to the interest and breaks the predictablility :-)

What a wonderful treasure! A great idea, that turned out to be beautiful. The memories attached to this are priceless! I might have to try this with some of Ethan's little drawings. Thanks for sharing!

Oh wow, I love it! And I think the two blues in the spokes is a genius touch. Your fabrics shimmer!

I already knew you are a fabric arteeest! This piece just proves it. It is the perfect interpretation of Evabeth's drawing. The biscuit goodies sound yummy. Gonna use that one next time grandgirls come to visit.

That is WAAAAAY cool!!! A spectacular quilty story...from beginning to near-finish.

Your own hand dyeds and batiks look amazing set against the black splashy batik. Perfecto! Can't wait to see it quilted.

Has the Man-of-the-House seen his art in-the-fiber yet?

(And...oh my...this may just be a fine beginning to art commissions for our sweet little Eva...yes?!?)

Love you bushels!

Kids are inspirational! My DD2 and I did a quilt block the other day (pic on my blog) of a teapot she designed and we pieced together. We're now working on a Halloween-inspired block that will be assembled shortly.
Thanks for sharing!
