9 is a wonderful number...

I tried giving you a hint by using my name and posting at 9am. Good guess Lisa! I have 9 sewing machines plus one serger and one longarm. There are only 8 in the picture because I didn't want to bother with taking the Singer out of the cabinet. 2 of the machines don't work- one is a rust bound treadle Singer and one smokes when you turn it on- not a good sign. But I use them for decoration. The other 7... well, yeah I do use them all. The Singers: 201, 221, 301. My three favorites and the best little quilting machines. And then there is the Japanese equivalent to the featherweight(I can use the FW parts on it) called an Electrogrand- that's the pretty blue one. Belt driven so I only use it occasionally these days since I have the new gear driven ones. A Nechi- which is a work horse and John's favorite machine to use. And two Brother machines. Then there's the singer serger and the Gammill long arm. Sewing machines are like people- they have their strengths and weaknesses. That tan 301 will sew through two layers of jean flat felt seams- about 8 layers of fab- none of the others could touch that. It just feels good to try out a different machine for a while- plus, I have 8 kids, so there are plenty machines for them to learn on.

Table runner...

This was a little weekend project. I just piddled with it in between crumb blocks and crochet. I've been wanting to try the crown of thorns pattern for a while- since I hung up that quilt I showed you a little while back. I think it turned out very well. Just a simple little meander- a nice job to get my feet wet again on the quilting machine that I have been neglecting.

I love your display of your sewing machines. Nine machines, in the shape of a nine, your name is Nines, and you posted at 9am. You're so funny! :) Being a math geek, I love when people play with numbers like that! Thanks for sharing!

Perfectly clever nines...like the runner, too.

Should I feel left out....I only have two machines and a serger but then I don't have any children at home to use my machines.

My machine count sounds about the same. I do have a serger, but I sold the longarm a few weeks ago. I have 3 black FWs and 1 "green" FW which actually looks white with perhaps a wee greenish tinge, a modern Bernina and a 90's model Pfaff, a Singer treadle, and then 3 vintage machines that I came across. I gave my brown Singer 301 to my son who makes reproduction Civil War uniforms to sell and it is a great machine for his projects. So I think that makes my count 9, plus serger, plus the one I gave away. And who's to say I won't come across another machine one day that wants to come home with me. :)

How clever to show your machines all curled up in a Nine! I've been sewing on my little back-up machine since Bernie is in the shop. Along with my serger, my count is only 3. But I'm thinking about getting a 4th....something new for easier machine quilting.

I love your blog and have given you an award. Thanks for all the inspiration and generousity!

I counted and recounted the machines in the photo about 4 times... before reading to find out that the 9th is in the sewing cabinet :P LOL

You should start planning something special for next year's September 9th - 09/09/09 :)

Love the colors in your crown of thorns. Very nice! Love from Texas! ~bonnie

Love to read about old sewing machines. Noticed you have a red eye, what model is it?? And which is the 201?? I have a 201-2, it is the workhouse here. Also have a featherweight who travels with me, and several 15's. More 66's and 99's. Several treadles. Yeah, the bug bit me! I long for a 66 with lovely lotus decals in a treadle cabinet. With a little bit of tinkering I can make all my machines sew a fine stitch. But the 201 is special, inherited from DH's grandmother--who was a wonderful person. Makes me smile as I think about her an sew.
